This project required integrating the freezer unit into a part of the building. Everything was designed around the freezer. It was partially designed for future freezer expansion if required. The Port Services Building is integrated with the Virginia Inland Port (VIP) in Front Royal, Virginia. This building is not part of the Inland Port, but is connected to it.
The VIP is operated as an intermodal container transfer facility, and it provides an interface between truck and rail for the transport of oceangoing containers to and from the VIP. Containers are transported by truck to the VIP for immediate loading upon a rail car or for short-term storage prior to loading. Port Services and the VIP properties are adjacent to one another. It was necessary to have a secure gate back and forth from the building to the VIP.
